  • 2023 World Championships and off-season events Recap

We became 1 of 8 winners for the Autonomous Award at the FIRST Robotics World Championships in 2023 (Awards tab in the link)! 3,286 teams competed at FIRST Robotics in 2023. We ranked 13 out of 77 in 1 of 8 division at the Worlds. Would you like to see our robot in action at the Worlds? It is the 2930 of the blue alliance in this 3-minute video.

We ranked 1 of 32 at the 2023 WA Girls Generation competition and won the final!

Our team 2930's alliance won at the off-season 2023 PNW (Pacific Northwest) Block Party on 10/29/2023! Additionally, we were the only club that both main team (2930) and sub team (9999) went to the final. It is amazing, considering Team 9999 robot was designed for and went through the 2022 World Championship.

We could not be so successful without our sponsors, mentors, parents, fans, and other supporters. Thank you!!!

Are you interested in cheering us? Here is our support/donation link. Any type of support, such as supplies, space, volunteering, monetary donation, is appreciated. Or just shout "1, 2, skip a few, 29 30!"

  • Glacier Peak Week 1 and Bonney Lake Week 3 Competitions

Week 1: The Sonic Squirrels hosted an event at Glacier Peak High School. Hosting an event is always an honor - but it can be frantic! Squirrels spent the day scurrying about assisting in field construction and pit organization and helping each team have the most convenient experience possible. We pride ourselves on fostering a positive environment within FIRST, and what better way than by hosting an amazing competition?

Our team finished the qualifying rounds ranked 2nd with a record of 11-1-0 and went on to win the event and the Autonomous Award. We were honored to be selected as the first pick by the #1 Alliance captain, team 2910 Jack in the Bot, and were also joined by team 1778 Chill Out on our Alliance.

Week 3: The Sonic Squirrels spent a weekend at Bonney Lake, participating in our second season competition. Bonney Lake High School was a novel experience for the entire team, as we have never competed at that event. This provided a brand-new opportunity to meet many wonderful teams that we've never had the chance to interact with. Having the opportunity to expand our team's connections and sources of inspiration was highly rewarding, and we look forward to further interactions with a larger group of teams.

Our team finished the qualifying rounds ranked 1st with a record of 9-3-0, won our second Autonomous Award of the season, and were the Captain of the #1 Alliance. We finished the event as District Event Finalist with a playoff record of 4-3. A huge thank you to our alliance partners team 2046 Bear Metal, team 4681 Murphy's Law, and team 8896 Wolf Tech Robotics.

A huge thanks to our sponsors, parents, mentors, fans, and everyone else for making these events possible! • Worlds 2022

After three competitions this year, we made it to the 2022 First Robotics World Championships!

We placed 54th place in the Newton division and averaged 94 points a match and 23.6 points for the hanger. Despite all the obstacles we encountered such as our shooter breaking before a match, battery issues, and more. We persevered and overcame these challenges and finished strong in our last couple qualifying matches.

We all had a blast at the competition! Everyone came back energized and full of ideas for next season.

  • Headed to District Championship

We're headed to the PNW District Championships in Cheney, WA April 6 - 9! This season's students (over half rookies who had never touched a robot) have come together and built an amazing organization and machine. Their success so far has us not only planning for the PNW Championship but suddenly we are preparing to attend the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston. Only 18 teams from the PNW will be invited to Worlds and we like our chances. We're looking forward to representing Glacier Peak and Snohomish High Schools with enthusiasm and gracious professionalism.

Donations of any size are always gratefully accepted - they lower the travel costs to SHS and GPHS students' families! You can donate directly here. If you or your company feels like giving big, we've got a winning robot with room for your logo and/or our travel shirt that can have YOUR business or family name on as a premiere travel sponsor for this event. Contact our business team at [email protected] for more details on sponsor levels or a tax receipt.

  • COVID PPE Production

The Sonic Squirrels 2930 are pleased to share their solution to threading ties into pleated and/or shaped fabric masks. These 3D needles work with many sizes of elastic, cording, knit T shirt ties, bias tape, and woven fabric ties. The needles also make it easy to "thread" many masks at once if you are producing in bulk. We give them away in pairs. The needles are approximately 5 and 5.5 inches in length. Each needle takes about 10-12 minutes to print on an Ultimaker 2+ in PLA+ filament. Times and results will vary depending on settings. We tried printing multiple needles at once, but found trailing filaments to be a problem.
